David and Helen, Walk 11 – Pranzo (2), July 2015

“Thank you … for giving such a memorable afternoon walk while we were in Florence. The view over the city was superb from the beautiful rose garden on the hill. Below this we thoroughly enjoyed the walk through the narrow streets with interesting tales about illicit liquor being sold out of trap doors in the walls in times past – we could go on and on. The highlight was the visit to the bookbinder, who showed us the way his previous four generations bound the books and made the marbling inside them. We recommend you all take one of these personalised walks to the other side of the river.”

David and Judy, Walk 2 – Oltrarno Walk, May 2015

Whilst they probably had around 20 others in for lunch that day, the family made us feel quite special – indeed part of the family. Food and wine were great – lots of very good regional produce, thoughtfully prepared and served with quality bottled wine and plenty of sparkling mineral water available. The meal was staged to ensure it was a casual relaxed afternoon – finishing about 10 minutes before our train departure time.”

Historical Fact

On November 4th 1966 the city of Florence was flooded when the River Arno burst its banks. Many lives were lost and thousands of valuable artworks and documents were destroyed, or badly damaged. The people who worked to help save countless other treasures became known as the Mud Angels … and on many city walls a line shows how high the waters reached.
