About the Walk

Prepare to go back in time – 27 centuries to when Rome was founded! The Romans began to build their great empire in 753BC and, today, you’ll stand amid the ruins. At the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, you’ll be able to imagine how life was – try to imagine horse-driven chariots on the Circus Maximus (the equivalent to a modern-day Grand Prix!) Test your honesty by putting your hand inside the Bocca di Verita – ‘The Mouth of Truth’ – brought to screen by Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. Legend has it your hand will fall off, if you are a liar!

See the magnificent Temples of Hercules and Portuno, the first two in Rome to be built from marble. You’ll see the Amphitheatre of Marcello and climb to the political centre of the ancient and modern Rome, Capitol Hill – totally restored in the 1600s by Florence’s Michelangelo. You’ll finish your walk in Piazza Venezia, where you’ll admire the monument dedicated to Victor Emmanuel, the first King of Rome, before Italy was declared a Republic.
